Last year Maggie (my lovely Aussie friend) and myself walked through snow, ice, rain, sleet, fog and bitter bitter cold wind from Orisson to Roncesvalles.
Camino Frances 2015
Over the hills…
We retraced our steps, spent a night in Pamplona before driving back over the Pyrenees and finding a small hotel in the seaside town of Cap Breton.
Back in France again and we just had dinner beside the sea, and now I’m looking at a photo with the moutains in the background… and I’m thinking to myself some where over those hills are a few folks walking and I miss them an awful lot.
Stay safe pilgrims and say a prayer for me in Santiago.
We woke as pilgrims
With the car parked up for the night in the car park by the river, we walked back to the albergue and pilgrim mode. We went in search of dinner and then in search of a bar… both are found with relative ease and much fun was had by all.
Hold the Squid
We had a great stop over in Naverette and after an afternoon in the bar we joined everyone else for the pilgrims menu. Gerry went with Hot Garlic soup which looked and smelled fabulous. I on the other hand was swayed by the host, who said the special was wonderful… stuffed peppers in squid ink.
There was this bottle…
Gerry joined me at the Hotel in Logrono. He actually bumped into Maggie in reception first before joining me. But there he was, in his camino gear with his camino rucksack and he was actually going to walk with me! We headed off into town to see who was around and we found everyone under the shade of a huge chestnut tree enjoying a few beers.
Gerry’s on the Camino
There is a theme emerging here, I think I’ve joined the party crowd on the camino! We ate in the main square in Los Arcos and Tony kept us all laughing with his funny stories of his days in the Dutch army. I really like Tony and Lianne… they are just good eggs, if you know what I mean. And Tony, he can tell a very very good story! However, I left the dutch and irish contingent and decided on an early tonight, they were off in search of a late night beer and I was tired… bah humbug!
Los Arcos… again!

Los Arcos in 2014
So I made it to Estella and I remember it well from last year… or maybe not! There’s a whole part of town I didn’t see before! Continue reading
What kind of plant is that?
Last night our little gang shared a great dinner and a lot of wine, but no wine for me of course!
The albergue was first class, indeed fabulous except… the beds were sh*t. A thin mattress literally on top of a sheet of mdf, which in turn was on itop of the springs. But the springs were totally pointless because all we felt was the mdf.
Bed Boards
After my wonderful night in Pamplona I woke refreshed and we started walking out of town. It wasn’t long though before Maggie realised her blisters were really hurting. We stopped and talked about what she should do; we felt the best thing was for her to search for a bus and take it easy today and let her feet heal… having been there I know exactly what she’s going through!
