It struck me last night as I was reading back through my Camino Norte Blog that 1) I never really finished it… there was a one day that we never wrote about. And 2) I’m really not very good at replying to folks who follow and comment (for which I apologise!)
I left you hanging around the Picos mountains and Llanes. We spent a few days exploring that coast before heading back one last time to Santandar. We retraced the path we should have taken, stopping and walking around the seaside towns we should have walked through. Looking back at the photos now in December I’m reminded just how beautiful this part of Spain is and I really would like to return and complete the Norte one day.
For our last night on the coast we found a little restaurant beside the sea. One last tick to be added to the completed holiday wish list… Gerry wanted to eat seafood in a restaurant, on the coast, where he could see and hear the ocean. He’s going home a happy man.
One last day… or part of a day. More retracing where we had already walked. Gosh it was beautiful. Time was pressing and it was late in the afternoon before we could tear ourselves away. We had to be back in France for the evening so there was nothing for it but to get back in the car and head for home.
This walk may not have been what we planned but oh we loved the part that we did. It’s a shame we were both sick but even that didn’t take away from the beauty of this area. The Norte (or what we walked) is a hard path but you are rewarded for your efforts! If I’m honest I don’t think I’d choose to walk another camino staying only in hotels but this wasn’t a camino it was Gerry’s birthday walk and he says it really was everything he wished for.
So here we are at the end of another year and I’m already planning the next one… and the next one… and the next one!
Season’s greeting pilgrims… thank you for following and for your support… and I’ll see you all in 2019!
Colleen ,Gerry and family all the very best for the festive season..keep safe..hugs and kisses…Alain

Colleen . . . .And a happy Christmas to you and Gerry too. Thanks so much for sharing your camino. Looking forward to the next. Maybe 2019 or 2020 we’ll actually get to meet and share some walking together.
Bless you, Grace (from sunny NZ)

Merry Christmas back at you Grace! I would love to meet up one day… and walking together would be a treat! I have provisionally blocked out 6 weeks in March and April 2020… too far ahead to plan I know, but I’m thinking either Levente or VdlP 😀 In the meantime I have Madrid/Salvador/Primitivo in September/October 2019 to look forward too! I wonder if the desire to walk ever ebbs 😀 xx
