So Why Walk?

Most people, when I tell them about my walk, have two reactions.

1) Why?

2) Are you mad?

To be honest there is no why…  Because I can… Because I want to… Or even, I have no idea.  It’s not a religious journey, I don’t think there are any spiritual reasons for walking, I just decided I would.

Am I mad?  Quite possibly.  The closer my walk starts the more I begin to wonder what on earth I have started but I am committed and I’m too far in now to turn back.  So I just need to prepare, walk, learn, prepare, walk, learn, and hope that I get to the end.

On the 12th September 2014 I’m leaving home and driving down to a little town called Saint Jean Pied de Port.  We’ll stay the night there before staring off up and over the Pyrenees to our first night at Orrison.  Gerry will leave me the next day and return home whilst I’ll carry on with a 7 week journey that hopefully will see me walk across northern Spain to Santiago de Compostela.

In the meantime I’m walking the old Vezelay Route around our home… and a few other walks and routes in the Dordogne… and if all else fails I walk to get the bread (5.2km return trip)
